Il a \u00e9tudi\u00e9 les math\u00e9matiques, l&#8217;astronomie et les sciences naturelles \u00e0 l &#8216;Universit\u00e9 de Breslau (Wroc\u0142aw) de 1847 \u00e0 1850. Apr\u00e8s \u00eatre all\u00e9 \u00e0 Berlin travailler dans une herboriculture en 1850, il abandonne les sciences naturelles et se consacre \u00e0 la m\u00e9decine \u00e0 l&#8217;Universit\u00e9 de Berlin, obtenant <strong>son doctorat en 1853.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Alternativement, alors \u00e9tudiant en botanique en Sil\u00e9sie, Brehmer est diagnostiqu\u00e9 comme tuberculeux et le m\u00e9decin lui dit de trouver un climat plus sain. Il est alors all\u00e9 dans Himalaya pour attendre la mort mais il a poursuivi ses \u00e9tudes et s&#8217;est retrouv\u00e9 gu\u00e9ri.<\/p>\n<p><strong>En 1854,<\/strong> il retourna en Allemagne pour \u00e9tudier la m\u00e9decine, r\u00e9digeant finalement une th\u00e8se intitul\u00e9e <em>&#8220;La tuberculose est une maladie curable&#8221;.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>En 1854<\/strong>, Brehmer s&#8217;\u00e9tait install\u00e9 \u00e0 G\u00f6rbersdorf (Soko\u0142owsko actuellement en Pologne mais avant 1945, c&#8217;\u00e9tait une terre allemande), en Sil\u00e9sie et ouvrit le Brehmersche Heilanstalt f\u00fcr Lungenkranke, <strong>un h\u00f4pital de G\u00f6rbersdorf o\u00f9 les patients \u00e9taient expos\u00e9s \u00e0 de grandes quantit\u00e9s d&#8217;air frais en haute altitude et \u00e0 une bonne alimentation.<\/strong> Initialement, son sanatorium \u00e9tait bas\u00e9 dans un petit groupe de chalets, mais il eut bien vite plus de 300 lits.
